A night that will change the way you see the sky
You will never look at the night sky the same way again.
In the Atacama Desert, the sky is not just a backdrop — it is the main experience. And knowing when to observe it is essential.
Even before your trip, there is one key factor: the lunar calendar.
We always recommend checking the moon phases before booking your flights. If your travel dates are already set, we prioritize nights between the fifth day after a Full Moon — when the moon rises only after the tour — and the first days of the New Moon, when illumination is below 20%.
This is when the sky reveals its full depth.
At the scheduled time, we pick you up from your hotel and drive about 20 km away from San Pedro de Atacama. The goal is simple: reach true darkness — the kind that allows you to see the sky as it really is.
This is one of the reasons why the Atacama Desert is considered one of the best places in the world for astronomical observation.
And for good reason.
Some of the world’s most important observatories are located here, including ALMA, the Simons Observatory, and TAO — facilities that can only exist in places with exceptional sky conditions.
So what makes this sky so unique?
It comes down to three rare factors:
Minimal light pollution from a small, remote town.
High altitude, above 2,400 meters (8,000 ft), with a thinner atmosphere.
And extremely low humidity, among the lowest on Earth.
At our observation site, the experience unfolds in stages — making the night both engaging and easy to follow.
We begin with naked-eye observation, just as humanity has done for thousands of years. We identify constellations, planets, and celestial movements, learning how to navigate the sky. It’s a moment of real connection — with the cosmos and the silence of the desert.
During this stage, we serve an outdoor cocktail with Chilean wine, hot drinks, and snacks — a moment to relax without disrupting the experience.
We then move on to telescope observation. This is where details come to life: planets, double stars, star clusters, nebulae, and galaxies — depending on the season. All explained in a clear and accessible way.
And finally, the last moment of the night:
Astrophotography.
Using long-exposure techniques, we capture your image under one of the most remarkable skies on Earth, with the Milky Way as your backdrop. More than a photo, it’s a record of your presence in this extraordinary place.
Throughout the experience, every decision — from location to timing — is based on real sky conditions.
We don’t operate on schedule alone, but on quality.
If you’re looking for more than just stargazing — if you want to experience the Atacama sky at its best — this is where that difference becomes clear.
We return to San Pedro de Atacama with a feeling that is hard to describe — a quiet understanding of our place in the Universe.
